Deadline extended – apply by 5pm 17th July
JMK & Northern Stage present:
Ways Into Text: A practical guide.
Thurs 27th & Fri 28th July 2017 10am – 5pm
How do you approach text as a director? Do you emphasize the psychological realism or bring out the poetry and musicality of the language? Should you be serving the author’s intention or ripping up all the rules in the dramaturgical handbook? Does the director help the actor to mine the text or should they let the performers’ emotions run wild?
Freelance director Adele Thomas (The Globe, Royal Court and ETT), and JMK Regional Co-Ordinator Justin Audibert (RSC, National Theatre, Theatre Royal Plymouth) lead a two-day intensive residency with a group of 12 directors exploring different ways of approaching text. This will be a practical workshop suitable for early and mid career directors based in Newcastle and the North East.
If you are interested would you please submit your CV and a brief paragraph expressing your interest to jo@jmktrust.org by 5pm Monday 17th July. You will be informed if you have been accepted by Tuesday 18th July.
